Willmar, 1-3pm, every Wednesday 8th June – 27th July, The Barn Theatre. An interactive weekly event of arts and creativity for children ages Kindergarten through 6th grade, free, register online at www.thebarntheatre.com.

Small art session: July 22, 1pm to 4pm, free. Create art to be exhibited in our community art galleries themed ‘State Fair’.

Early Bird Floats and Little Art Session: July 26, 4pm to 6pm, free to paint a square in Community Painting; Root beer floats $2.

Willmar Community Education

Willmar Community Education has several arts-related courses planned. Pre-registration is required for all courses. Cooking classes can be found in the food and drink calendar in the Thursday newspaper.

Nature Kid Art Club: two separate sessions, 1:30-3:00 p.m., Grades K-5, Instructor Libbie Anderson. Make outdoor art with us. We will work on a different project each month using objects from nature and different art mediums. Expand your love of nature and art at the same time. Rustic Designs Flower Farm: August 18, 9:30am-11:00am, $43, all ages welcome, Instructor Mary Solbreken. Enjoy a guided tour of more than five acres of flower gardens, then create a beautiful fresh floral arrangement to take home. Milan Village Arts classes have been scheduled with the full schedule on the website. Members receive a discount on tuition fees. The provision fees are paid to the teacher at the end of the lesson. Acanthus Carving: August 8 to 12, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Instructor Jock Holmen; beginners and above; learn to carve elegant, ornate leaf patterns in wood; Tuition $325 plus supplies; Registration deadline July 23rd.

Silversmithing 1: 10th-11th September, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Instructor Marilyn Hanson; Beginners, no previous knowledge required, minimum age 16 years; learn the basics including soldering and how to use most tools; Tuition $145, supplies $80-110 depending on market price and $5 acetylene fee; no outer silver; Silver Studio is available to those who complete this course; Registration closes July 30th.

stone setting: 19-20 Aug, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Instructor William Kennedy; Silversmith or goldsmith experience required, minimum age 18; setting round cubic zirconia stones with the pearl and luster cut setting and the flush or “gypsy” setting; Tuition $165; Registration closes August 6th.

Swedish wheat weaving: August 20, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Instructor Lynette Swenson; from beginners from 14 years; Tuition $95, materials list at enrollment; Registration closes August 6th.

Learn to keep your edge: August 20, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; instructor Fred Livesay; from beginners from 15 years; Discuss edge geometry, grindstone types, technique and edge triage and how to deal with them.
