“Participating in local arts events and attractions not only provides fun, engaging experiences, but also supports the state’s economy,” said Jeffrey Vasser, executive director of the New Jersey Division of Travel & Tourism. “Although the tourism industry has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, the sector has made a strong comeback and remains key to New Jersey’s economy. Last year, 96.6 million visitors spent $37.3 billion, supported 270,566 jobs and $4.6 billion in state and local tax revenues. Cultural tourism is a big part of this equation.”

Allison Tratner, executive director of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, agrees that art is big business. “While COVID has had a major impact on the arts industry, theatres, museums, galleries and performing arts centers continue to welcome people with great enthusiasm – and this is good news for everyone. Our inner cities and communities are once again thriving on artistic activity that draws millions of people to shop, dine and stay in hotels and generates more than $662 million for our state’s economy.”

ArtPride New Jersey is presenting the Jersey Arts Road Trip as part of its ongoing Discover Jersey Arts initiative, which aims to increase arts audiences in New Jersey.
