Glynn Visual Arts is hosting Fire Friday from 6pm to 8pm at 106 Island Drive, St. Simons Island. This month’s take-home activity is a shadow box. The class costs $40. To sign up, visit glynnvisualarts.org.

The youth of the island players summer workshop will direct the musical “Mary Poppins Jr.” on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. at the Casino Theater, 550 Beachview Drive, St. Simons Island. There will be a matinee on Sunday at 3 p.m. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased at the theater on the day of the performance.

The Coastal Photographer Guild presents The Big Photo Show at the SoGlo Gallery, 1413 Newcastle St., Brunswick. The exhibition is free and open Wednesday to Friday from 11am to 5:30pm and Saturday from 11am to 4pm. The exhibit is also open for appointments by calling 912-230-1042. The Jekyll Island Arts Association’s July exhibition, Equal Partners, will be on display at Goodyear Cottage on Jekyll Island until July 31st. It features wood turned pieces and paintings by Steve and Suzy Dmetruk. The gallery is open Monday to Friday from 12pm to 4pm and Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 4pm. Admission is free and there are also local artworks for sale.

Glynn Visual Arts presents the National Association of Historically Black Colleges and Universities exhibition Common Roots: Many Branches. Over 60 artworks reflect life, family, racial identity and historical memory in this rare and respected collection. The gallery is located at 106 Island Drive, St. Simons Island. It can be viewed until August 13th.

Monday to Friday

Golden Isles Arts and Humanities hosts its Create camp for 12-14 year olds at the Ritz Theater in downtown Brunswick. The camp takes place daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuition is $225. To register, email artsed@goldenislesarts.org.

Tuesday

The Ashantilly Center, 15591 Ga. 99, Darien will host Valerie J. Frey, author of Preservating Family Recipes: How to Save and Celebrate Your Food Traditions at 10:30 am. Disabled American Veterans (DAV) meet at 6:00 p.m. at the Coastal Georgia Community Action Center, Suite A, 1 Community Drive, Brunswick. There will also be a meal from Sonny’s BBQ.

The monthly meeting of the Risley Alumni Association, Inc. is held at 6:00 p.m. in the Association Building on the Historic Risley Elementary School campus at 1800 Albany Street. All classes at Historic Risley High School are encouraged to have a representative present at each of the meetings.

Tuesday and Wednesday

Glynn Visual Arts is hosting Betty Oliver, an artist and travel sketch teacher who will lead a workshop on travel sketching. The workshops take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tuesday classes are held at 106 Island Dr., St. Simons Island and Wednesday classes are held in the Village to allow students to paint locally. 30th July

Golden Isles Arts and Humanities hosts The Abridged Complete Works of William Shakespeare at 7:30pm at the Ritz Theater in downtown Brunswick. Members of Jacksonville’s Apex Theater Studio will perform Shakespeare’s plays. Membership cards are $15 for adults and $10 for seniors. Non-member tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for seniors. July 30th and 31st

The Brunswick Actors’ Theater presents The Near Disaster of Jasper and Casper, written and performed by Jason Wood. There are two ways to catch this show before it debuts on Theater Row in New York City in September 2022. Show times include Saturday evenings at 8pm and Sunday afternoons at 3pm at 1413 Newcastle Street, Brunswick. Doors open 30 minutes before curtain. July 31 to September 3

Glynn Visual Arts presents plein air paintings from the annual Hofwyl Plein Air Festival at the Golden Isles Visitor Center. The artwork was curated by Glynn Visual Arts. Visit glynnvisualarts.org for more information.

August 1st

The Friends of Braunschweig has an antiquarian bookshop that is open Monday to Friday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. It is open on Saturdays from 10am to 3pm in the Library, 208 Gloucester St., Brunswick. Paperbacks are $1 and hardcovers are $2. DVDs and audio books are also available.

August 2nd and 3rd

Glynn Visual Arts will host Joanna Hill, who will present a two-day colored pencil workshop. Classes are held from 10am to 12pm at 106 Island Dr., St. Simons Island.
