Grease Monkey BBQ Supplies Condiments, Sauces and More for Your Backyard Grilling – Oil City News | Candle Made Easy

Casper’s first locally owned and operated specialty BBQ store celebrated its grand opening on June 10, 2022. The Grease Monkey BBQ Supply Store business idea grew out of a Wyoming man’s love for the art of grilling.

“I find the passion I have for grilling in a lot of people,” shared owner Levi Harper.

Harper moved to Casper from Riverton because of his job as a mechanic. As he was driving around town, he noticed that he couldn’t get any of the grilling accessories that he would see online.

“I had to drive all over town, visit every store, spend the day driving, and then go home and end up ordering online,” he said. “It just came to me. I was like, ‘Man, if only they had a one-stop grill shop.'”

Harper saw a need in the Casper community and knew his own passion for grilling. So Harper decided to open the Grease Monkey BBQ Supply Store. The store is located at 1851 E. 12th Street, right next to Wyoming Hot Wings.

Harper, his girlfriend Trina and his mother Gina currently run the shop. Their most popular items are their specialty seasonings and sauces, which can be used to add extra flavor to any meat, including lamb, chicken, beef, venison and more. Even non-barbecue families have discovered that these seasonings are great on pizza, tacos, casseroles, and any other type of meal. They even allow the indoor chef to prepare creative dinners and add unique flavors to each meal.

In fact, Grease Monkey BBQ has over 220 different flavors of condiments, rubs, sauces and marinades in their store. These include several local brands such as Pine Ridge, Mike Miner’s, J&D’s Cajun Kitchen, and 4J-BQ Sauces.

Harper said, “There are so many locals all coming up to me and we’re slowly trying to get everyone in.”

In addition to these popular products, Grease Monkey BBQ also offers charcoal, pellets, infused salts, smokers, accessories, cutting boards, knives and even honey with unique flavors. Some of the honey flavors they have are spicy, chocolate, and vanilla.

Supporting local businesses is important to Harper, and so many of the products they sell are made by local people in the Casper and Wyoming areas. In addition to their spices and rubs, they also sell locally made Platte River Products knives.

“I believe in keeping your money local and helping local people. We all come from the same area, so we all have similar beliefs. You make friends with people and just like to help each other out and keep everything in Wyoming,” Harper said. “I think that’s kind of a classic old-school way and I’m really old-school.”

Another important aspect of the Grease Monkey BBQ Supply Store is its commitment to American values.

“We’re very pro-American. That makes us very big supporters of the military and police,” Harper said. “They serve a very powerful purpose for America.”

With solid American values, Grease Monkey BBQ offers military and first responders a 10% discount.

“That [American] Flag means a lot to me. Without the American flag and American values and what it is built on, we could do nothing in our country.”

Along with its products, Harper is committed to providing knowledge and education to customers who walk through their doors. With his passion for grilling, this is one of Harper’s favorite areas of the business.

“We help each other and give each other tips and tricks to help everyone grill better. Because it’s actually very simple. A lot of people are afraid to buy a hundred dollar brisket and cook it, but that’s what we’re here for. It’s supposed to help,” Harper shared.

Grease Monkey BBQ is Harper’s first store; However, he is already planning ahead and wants to enter some competitions.

“You have to be ahead of the game and if it’s my first time in this business I’m still learning. Over time we will hold all competitions. We actually want to do more competitions in Casper and have a lot more than just the one in the summer.”

Harper shared that he also wants to start setting up a booth at local community events like markets at David Street Station and Rock the Block.

“It would be great to be a part of it. I look forward to the events and I’m nervous because I’ve never done them before. I’m still learning that whole side of things,” he said.

Despite the learning curve, Harper is passionate about BBQ and excited to share it with the Casper community.

“I think the best thing is when I’m out in the store, I can stand there and talk to someone about crickets for hours. Most people are just like me and their wives say, “We have to go.” We sit and talk like we’ve known each other for years.”
