Cultural Alliance hosts artist reception, mural unveiling
The first of six permanent and movable murals at Danbury Fair shopping center was unveiled on Thursday 21 July with a 6pm reception for artist Marcus Escribano.
To illustrate the mural’s theme of “reemergence and awakening,” Escribano incorporated symbols of his Caribbean and African heritage to represent the sun and a sense of dawn. He also used the blue crescent, a symbol of fidelity vital during the resurrection process.
Unveilings and receptions for the next five artists will be held near the murals, which can be seen near the Apple Store wing on the second level of the mall, on most Thursdays through early September.
The Cultural Alliance of Western Connecticut partnered with Ridgefield-based Art in Common to curate the series and showcase emerging and upcoming artists. The screens are designed to be easily moved, enhancing the permanent wall installation planned for the Apple wing. The focus of the moving murals is on social sustainability and community building. This project is an extension of the large wall installation appearing at Danbury Fair this autumn.
In addition to Escribano, artists include:
– Jannelle Chandler, with an unveiling and reception event on July 28 at 6 p.m. on July 28
— Eric Chandler, with an unveiling and reception event on August 18 at 6 p.m.,
– Dedan Davenport, with an unveiling and reception event on August 25 at 6 p.m.,
