How Picsart uses AI to empower developers | Js Magazine – Jumpstart Media | Candle Made Easy

Technical skills no longer have to be a barrier to creativity.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is being integrated into various professions today to reduce human workload and increase productivity. One of the areas where AI is being used today is creating art. We’ve already discussed how you can use the AI art generator DALL-E to create some memes. However, if you’re looking for AI tools to help you create content for your business, apps like Picsart might be a better choice.

To understand how Picsart uses AI to create art and help entrepreneurs create content for their businesses, we spoke to Hovhannes Avoyan, the founder and CEO of Picsart.

About Picart

Picsart is a free online tool that businesses and content creators can use for photo and video editing. The Picsart app has been downloaded over a billion times today and has over 150 million active creators on its platform. But the app wasn’t designed to offer its services to so many people. Avoyan originally created Picsart to help his daughter Zara hone her skills as an artist.

“She was bullied online after sharing some of her artwork and I saw an opportunity and a need for accessible editing software and a supportive community for creators. So I set out to build Picsart,” he explained. Rather than trying to market itself exclusively to a professional user base, Picsart wanted to be all inclusive. It aims to give people inspiration and support to show their full range of creative expression.

Picsart’s foray into AI

As we just mentioned, Picsart aims to empower everyone to be creative through powerful yet easy-to-use tools. To that end, the company has been actively developing new tools and incorporating AI into its software offerings to simplify the art-making process. Picsart has had a strong focus on AI from the start and in 2021 launched its own AI research and development segment, Picsart AI Research (PAIR). Picsart has invested a lot of time and money in PAIR and in the past year has introduced several AI-enabled tools such as AI-Generated Fonts, Remove Background Tool and VideoINR (a deep learning approach to video storage and streaming).

In June this year, the company also introduced an AI enhancement tool that removes noise (the grainy texture) from images and improves overall image quality. “Looking ahead, we will continue to be guided by our goal for PAIR: to empower the next generation of creative expression through cutting-edge AI innovations,” said Avoyan.

But can AI really create art?

Despite all the money Avoyan and his company are investing in AI, the use of AI in creative expression raises the question of whether we can even consider AI creations as “art.” One of the most famous AI paintings “Edmond de Belamy, from La Famille de Belamy” has been criticized for being generic. When asked about his opinion on art, Avoyan said that we need to understand creative expression as a combination of technique and imagination. “AI can bridge the gap between them (technology and imagination) and help anyone turn their imagination into art, even if they lack the technical skills or artistic training to do it using traditional methods,” he added.

Avoyan is certain that bringing AI into art will help artists. He mentioned that artists can use AI not only as a way to create art, but also as a source of inspiration for their own art projects. “I don’t think it’s a human-machine debate, but rather how a hybrid approach can bring together the best of human and technology.” He believes that AI is what it means to be an artist , will expand and give everyone the opportunity to exercise their creativity.

How Picsart is helping the creator economy

Picsart is part of the $100+ billion creator economy. As such, it supports creatives in growing their business. The company prides itself on creating a free-to-use platform. “Our role here [in the creator economy] is fundamentally rooted in the democratization of access to the powerful creative skills that legacy software has preserved as a gateway in the past,” said Avoyan.

In February, the company announced an Application Programming Interface (API) program called Picsart for Developers. This program allows creators or small businesses to use Picsart tools directly on several other platforms. “From the ability to create podcast covers to Etsy shop visuals, TikTok trends, branding, merchandise and more, Picsart makes creative technology readily available so it’s easy to learn, create, and share content to post and produce,” assures Avoyan.

As an entrepreneur, Avoyan has a unique awareness of the challenges that can be encountered along the entrepreneurial journey, particularly in the creative industries. He stressed that creativity is like a muscle that needs constant exercise. “As the founder of five startups and as CEO, I consider the ability to be creative to be one of my most important tools.” He added that creativity can help entrepreneurs come up with unconventional ideas and embrace new challenges with ease.
