SLOPOKE is the premier art exhibition and sale on California’s Central Coast, attracting artists from across the country to showcase paintings, sculpture and photography. Each year artists compete for the coveted silver SLOPOKE belt buckle awards for Best Painting, Best Sculpture and Best Show.

“We are pleased to announce that we will have a record-breaking 37 artists at this year’s SLOPOKE,” said Tom Burgher, Founder of SLOPOKE. “We showcase art of the West, not necessarily ‘Western Art’, and look for emerging artists painting the West in the 21st century, as well as artists recreating the West in the 18th or 19th centuries. We are deliberately broad in our definition of Western art, embracing ranch life, historical and contemporary Native American life, landscapes, seascapes, cityscapes, and wildlife in all media and styles, from realism to abstract works. We are delighted to be able to showcase so many visual artists and look forward to welcoming the public to another fantastic event this year!”

Californian artist Michael Obermeyer will serve as guest artist and legal counsel for SLOPOKE 2022. In addition to judging the artist awards that will be presented at the artist reception on Friday evening, Obermeyer will be exhibiting a curated selection of his artworks at the event.
